The Story behind Apple's environmental footprint

Andy Baynes leads the Environmental Technologies team at Apple. He is Apple's environmental strategist to the executive team and is responsible for major programs on toxic-free, energy efficient and recyclable products as well as broader programs covering greenhouse gas emissions, communication and compliance. During this period, the Company has delivered the most energy efficient, toxic-free and recyclable product designs in the IT sector, winning the 2010 GEELA award and thus enabling Apple to become the first company to achieve a gold EPEAT ranking for all products. Apple was also the first company to completely eliminate toxic brominated flame-retardants, and mercury from all products, helping to set a transformational wave in the electronics supply chain. Residing in Silicon Valley with his family, Andy currently serves on the board of directors for POETIC, a non-profit dedicated to the development of therapies for children with cancer and other related disorders. He holds a Master of Science in Environmental Technology from Imperial College in London.
