CONCLUSIONS

  • The most frequent diagnosis for which antibiotics are prescribed in primary care are:

Urinary tract infections

Pharyngitis

Tonsilitis

Teeth abscess

No diagnosis

  • The most frequently prescribed antibiotics are:

Cotrimoxazole

        Tetracyclines

        Procainic Penicilline

        Metronidazole

        Cloramphenicol

  • Antibiotics were prescribed in Emergency Wards and outpatient consultations, mainly by family physicians.
  • The selected antibiotic was adequate in aproximately 60% of prescriptions, inadequate in 30% of prescriptions inadequate in 9% , because no adecuate antibiotic was available
  • The best prescribed antibiotic was penicilline and the worse was tetracycline.
