Abstract

The feasibility of accessing the internet and using it as a communication tool has become an important aspect of the international community in these last few years. Furthermore, enabling the communication of scientific issues, topics and discussions in real time is turning out to be an asset in today's virtual society. The creation of different forums where people can merge to exchange viewpoints and ideas, facilitating the comprehension, education and outreach of information, is a very important tool. Our goals are to bring people together with different backgrounds who can produce interesting scientific topics based on their knowledge, to teach and learn from the specifics of each topic, to reach as many interested parties in the public health and environmental health communities as possible and ultimately to create a network where new partnerships can be developed. An application of this tool through UniNet is being used to present diverse topics related to public health and the environment. Topics ranging from The Socio-sanitary Influence of El Niño or Neurotoxins in Snakes to Wastewater Treatments have been presented so far and many others such as Attention Deficit Disorders, Environmental Site Assessments or the Use of GIS in Public Health are being developed.
