Downregulation Of SERCA Pump Expression In The Rat Diaphragm After Corticosteroid Treatment

Contact Person: Ghislaine Gayan-Ramirez (ghislaine.gayan-ramirez@med.kuleuven.ac.be)

Discussion and Conclusion

- Prolonged half-relaxation time due to corticosteroid treatment may result from alterations in SERCA pump expression and mainly in SERCA 1

- The SERCA pump alterations due to corticosteroid treatment are in accordance with the selective diaphragm type II atrophy associated with corticosteroid treatment

- It is worthwhile to mention that the magnitude of SERCA pump alterations was more pronounced than expected on the basis of diaphragm atrophy, suggesting functional alterations of muscle fibers
