Champion Canadian kayaker Adam van Koeverden added his forth Olympic medal to his mantle place – a silver in the men’s K1000m – in the summer of 2012, joining the gold, silver, and bronze medals he had already earned during the course of the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympic Games. Named Canada’s flag bearer at the closing ceremonies in 2004 as well as the opening ceremonies in 2008, Adam was also named Canada’s Lou Marsh Trophy winner as Canada’s top athlete of 2004. Not only an Olympic champion, Adam achieved a World Championship title for the second time in 2011, beating his closest competitor by more than three seconds.
Off the water, Adam is active with the David Suzuki Foundation and is an athlete ambassador for Right to Play, an organization that comes to the aid of disadvantaged youth through sport and activity.
