Specializing in economic and financial development, Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed currently holds the prestigious position of Governor of Bangladesh Bank, the country’s Central Bank.
Dr. Ahmed graduated from McMaster with a Ph.D. in Economics in 1978 and an M.A. in Economics in 1974. He has worked for numerous government and non–governmental agencies in Bangladesh, focusing on poverty alleviation and overall development of the people of Bangladesh.
Prior to his position as Governor of Bangladesh Bank and since 1996, he was the Chief Executive Officer for the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (or PKSF), a non–profit organisation set up by the government for poverty alleviation. Before that he was the Director General for the NGO Affairs Bureau of the Prime Minister–s Office in Bangladesh and was the Director General of the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (or BARD) from 1993. He has also taught economics at the Dhaka University from 1970 to 1973.
