A Rhodes Scholar from McMaster, Allan “Buck” Leal was academic and civil servant. Leah studied law at Osgoode Hall and Harvard University. Leal was appointed Dean of the Osgoode Hall School of Law in 1958 and he served in that role until 1966. He served as chairman of the Ontario Law Reform Commission and then was appointed the Deputy Attorney General of Ontario where he fostered new legislation such as the Provincial Offences Act and introduced court services in French. On stepping down from the Ministry in 1981, he served as special adviser to Premier William G. Davis on Constitutional Matters.Leal was appointed Chancellor of McMaster in 1977 and served with distinction until 1986.
