Tommy Douglas was a Baptist minister, politician and premier of Saskatchewan. Tommy attended Brandon College, an affiliate of McMaster graduating in 1930 with a theology degree. Tommy continued with his studies at McMaster graduating in 1933 with a Masters of Arts. He began his political career serving in the House of Commons, leading the Saskatchewan Cooperative Commonwealth Federation and acting as Premier of Saskatchewan from 1944 to 1961. His concern for social and economic reform introduced policies such as government medicare, mandatory government health and auto insurance, and rural electrification to Saskatchewan. His ideas for social reform would expand across Canada and he would later become the founding leader of the New Democratic Party.
