Pension Surplus Workshops
(e-mail sent to MUFA members on November 28, 2001)

 Hi all

I am sending you an email to let you know that some private firms have started to advertise pension surplus workshops on campus and you may have received an email announcement (I am not sure what mailing list is being used) of the sort below.

To McMaster Pension Plan Member,
Pension surplus workshops including:
 -Buy back credited service
 -Taxes shelter your payment
 -Investment options for your surplus
 -Pension plan information

These are not sponsored by the members' Committee nor by the University (to my knowledge) but rather, I suspect, by a private firm hoping to invest your money for you.  That is not to suggest that these might not be a useful place to get information.  Advice is their business, after all.  There may be more of these events happening by other firms as we get closer to the pay out date.

We on the members' Committee are not financial advisors and are not in a position to give investment advice nor are we in a position to recommend any particular private investment firm.  You may find these sessions helpful or you may wish to go to your own financial advisor or seek advice from your banking institution.
