Report on the Status of the Faculty Remuneration Negotiations

The current remunerations agreement expires on June 30, 2005.  In a year when an agreement expires, the Joint Committee Agreement calls for a report to be issued to you if a new agreement has not been reached before February 1st.  Agreement has not been reached and hence this report, which will be very brief.

Negotiations have been proceeding in a collegial fashion.  The only point of agreement concerns the general principle that the Career Progress/Merit Scheme should continue.

The Committee has discussed the amounts spent on the Career Progress/Merit awards, details of the University's financial position, comparisons of McMaster faculty salaries with those at other Ontario universities, recent wage and salary settlements within the University and elsewhere and amounts spent on benefit items, the Professional Development Allowance and the research leave provision.

Negotiations continue.

On behalf of the Joint Committee,

Trevor Chamberlain
President, Faculty Association
Ken Norrie
Provost and Vice-President (Academic)
