Reviewing for Money Tim Champion
tchampion@jcsu.edu
When I review a textbook or lab manual, etc., I am always compensated in cash. Textbook reviewing is less intelectually demanding than article reviewing, so it would make sense to compensate journal ms reviewers, at least in terms of the intellectual effort. Speaking generally, reviewing journal ms's is intellectually more rewarding, though. The economics of the situation are probably different. This may contribute to increasing journal prices, which may enhance the trend toward online journals.
