For open neural tube defects this programme uses the four analytes described in the poster and not just AFP as a single marker. For anencephaly the odds of an affected pregnancy given an "increased
risk" result are 1 in 3 with a recall rate of 0.3%. For meningomyelocoele the odds are 1 in 7 for a recall of 0.6%. The remainder of the 3% quoted in the poster comprise of raised AFP associated with other obstetric complications but not open neural tube defects. The odds of an affected pregnancy given a "not at increased risk" result are less than 1 in 10,0000. We have not done any research on drug use.
