Elevated novelty seeking and peculiar d-AMPH sensitization in periadolescent mice Giovanni LAVIOLA
laviola@iss.it
Dr Andersen, I was following your work during the time. As you may know, we are also working on adolescent subjects; mostly in mice and at a behavioural/neuroendocrine level.
To make a direct question: How you think that your data could explain the marked differences in sensitization to both cocaine and d-amphetamine we have reported in periadolescent and adult animals ?
Specifically, (1) periadolescents failed to show evidence of sensitization to the stereotyped patterns of behaviour as the adult subjects did; (2) periadolescents also exhibited a much more marked sensitization of the locomotor component when compared with adult subjects (JPET 275:345-357, 1995; Behav. Neurosci. 112: 1152-1166, 1998); (3) periadolescents also showed a more marked novelty seeking and novelty-induced arousal than adults (Behav. Neurosci. 112: 1152-1166, 1998).
Please, note that your hypotheses would be of great help for us.
