>     This is a very interesting study.  If the number of arterioles did not change with the increase in muscle mass, but there was an increase in precapillary arterioles to meet the metabolic needs of the muscle, then there need to be an increase in flow in the arterioles to supply the increased number of microvessels.  Is this correct?  This may explain the increase in lumen and wall mass in these feeding vessels.

Dr. Lee.  You are correct.  Langille et al have shown decreased lumen of carotid arteries when flow is decreased.   Our study further supports the notion that flow is a determinant of vascular structure.
