Thank you very much for your reply which was helpful. I agree with you on the idea that ACh provides a state of readiness in cortical neurons for other (e.g., thalamocortical) inputs and that this "readiness" is important in their function in cognitive processes or long-term plasticity (Rasmusson, Dykes). I look forward to your upcoming paper in TINS!
