Protecting Material in your Office
For Your Office:
For Technology:
- Always lock your office when you are not in it.
- File away test and assignment material – i.e., do not leave in plain view on your desk.
- Lock filing cabinets, desk drawers, etc.
- Install passwords on your computer and laptop and change them regularly. See http://www.mcmaster.ca/uts/security/ITsecurity/passwordsbp.htm for ideas on how to create a strong password.
- Lock your computer when not in use: i.e., control-alt-delete K.
- Be very careful with USB keys and laptops – they are portable and easy to steal.
- Anti-virus software should be installed on your computer.
- Limit the use of your computer: i.e., do not permit casual use by others.
- Assignment solutions and marking keys – do not label them in an obvious manner on your computer or on WebCT (e.g., do not name the file “assignment1answers”).
